Please join us at the Warwickshire Badger Group Open Meeting on Tuesday 30 September 2025, 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm, at
Stoneleigh Village Hall, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire CV8 3DG.
Guest speaker:
Rick Thompson – author and broadcaster
We’re excited to welcome local author and broadcaster Rick Thompson to share insights from his new book A Year on the Fosse. The Fosse Way is one of Britain’s great Roman roads, built soon after the invasion of AD 43 to mark the western frontier of Roman rule. Stretching 230 miles from Lincoln to Exeter, it still shapes our landscapes and communities today.
Rick takes us on a seasonal journey along this remarkable route, weaving together its Roman history, archaeology, and the wildlife that flourishes along its line. His talk will also highlight the Fosse Way in Warwickshire, where the road threads through villages like Stretton-under-Fosse and Princethorpe, meets Watling Street at the historic crossroads of High Cross, and passes near landmarks such as Chesterton Windmill.
From badgers and farmland birds to the plants and insects of hedgerows and river valleys, Rick shows how the Fosse Way acts as a living corridor for nature as well as a monument of history.
Join us for an evening that promises to bring together heritage, wildlife, and the story of a road that still runs straight through the heart of our county.
Signed copies of A Year on the Fosse will be available or can be ordered locally.
There will be Refreshments and a Raffle Prize Draw
As a voluntary group, we rely on donations to help us host Open Evenings and other events. Donations of biscuits and sweet treats for the break are appreciated. We also welcome any donated prizes for the raffle.
