Guest Speaker – Professor Malcolm Bennett
About this event
We are pleased to announce that Professor Malcolm Bennett is our guest speaker for this Open Meeting and AGM.
As some of you may recall, he was the lead on the Road Kill Survey carried out by the team at the University of Nottingham, which looked for bTB in badgers killed on road in six edge counties.
Professor Bennett is joining us to update our members and supporters on the latest results of the ongoing research. This is at a time when the government has just released the figures on the number of badgers they slaughtered in 2021. Warwickshire sadly lost 1,121 badgers, 74 of which were caged trapped and shot and 1,047 which were killed by the proven inhumane free-shooting method. All this, when Professor Bennett’s study in 2017 clearly showed that our county’s badgers had very low incidences of bTB, with one of the results showing a strain of TB found in voles.
We will open doors at 7.00 pm and start promptly at 7.30 pm. The first item on the agenda will be the AGM, and we will get through the business of this as quickly as possible so that we can spend more time on the important subject of badger culling.
There will be the usual raffle and short break midway through the evening.
We look forward to seeing you on the 28th.
Meeting is free, but please book in advance through this link –> Event Booking
